Filming for draft trailer!

On Thursday 8th March, Hannah and I went to my house to film the indoors parts for our horror trailer. Harry, Ashleigh and Jack came along with us to play some of the roles of 'dead people' and the other masked figure. We recorded a mirror scene, and the 'death' scene which involved Harry, Ashleigh and I.

We then came back to school and edited our new parts of our trailer and finished our draft. Once our teacher has looked at our trailer, we will then re-record and make any changes that are needed.

Filming/Editing our horror trailer.

Hannah, Georgia and I went to Orwell Forest and filmed the forest scene for our trailer last Thursday. We ended up getting the middle part of our trailer, but we still need to film and edit the beginning and end.

Today in lesson Hannah and I edited our middle part of our trailer and making what we think was good. We are still unable to film the beginning and end but we will be filming those scenes tomorrow during the day outside of sixth form.

Horror Final Piece

Today we went to the a woody area in Ravenswood and took some still shots of:

  • Scenery
  • Over-shoulder shot
  • Birds-eye view shot
  • Point of view shot
This helped us practise our camera angles and how we wanted the finishing shot to look.

Horror film trailers

Last week we watched trailers that people at AS produced and real horror film trailers, this was to help us when developing our own horror trailers.

The trailers we watched were:

  • House 1,2 and 3
  • Nightmare on Elm Street
  • Saw 1 and 6
  • Grave Encounters
  • The Inkeepers
When watching the older styled horror trailers like House and Nightmare on Elm Street, you could see how different the style of horror used to be. The music was the main source of horror in the older trailers whereas in the newer styled trailers gore and physically seeing something scary was involved. The newer trailers, compared to the older, you can see have improved leaps and bounds with the CGI and overall presentation of the trailers.

Horror Posters

Hi!

Last Thursday, we started to design our own Horror Posters for our Horror final piece research. We needed to come up with our own title, our own image that is first drawn by ourselves and then it will be taken with a camera and edited. I have done 3 smaller posters and 1 larger one which I will then use to take a picture inspired by it.

Horror survey results!

What do you expect from a horror film?

·      Being kept in suspense.
·      Entertainment through suspense horror.
·      Lots of gore, parts of the film that makes you jump of your seat.
·      Scariness, build up of tension, DEATH.
·      To be scared.
·      I expect to be scared but then I also expect to laugh also if they are very cheaply made.
·      Blood.

What is your favourite horror film and why?
·      Don’t have one
·      Paranormal activity 2; because the entire film is all about shock horror, keeping you on the edge of your seat, trying to guess what's going to happen, then the completely unexpected happens.
·      'Halloween'. I think its the 2007 version, it is a quality film, lots of scary parts within the film and also there is lots of gore. Also the story behind why the person is killing is very interesting.
·      Silent Hill, just because its a mind mess
·      Nightmare on Elm Street because it can play with your mind and makes you feel scared.
·      Final destination because it makes you jump and it also makes me laugh by how they die.
·      Only seen The Last House on the Left.

Do you think all horror films are age appropriate? If no, why?

·      Some are but if certificated then I don't think it matters.
·      All horror films with a rating of 18 are appropriately rated.
·      Yes.
·      Some I don't, for example why have sex in a 15 but yet no sex in an 18?
·      I think they are.
·      I believe they are because if people don't like them at that age then they don't have to go and watch it but then I also think anyone under the age it is shouldn't watch it.
·      Not many people pay attention to the age on the film, they watch it if they want to.

Horror Thriller:
These types of movies usually involve a lot of suspense and shock throughout the movies. The movie would also have throughout ‘spooky’ music, which makes the audience feel frightened about what might happen to the character next. An example of a horror thriller is One Missed Call. This movie is about people who start to get voice mails from a mystery caller, telling them the time, date and details of their death. This movie is a complete suspense movie, especially when the audience becomes attached to the main lead, and hopes she finds a way to stop the mystery caller from killing her.

Horror Romance:
In these types of movies there is the horror elements but there is also a love story twisted in between all of the havoc. A good example is Dracula. This is a about a vampire who comes to England, in order to seduce a visitors fiancée but he also has arrives to inflict havoc to everyone else. This movie throughout makes the literally want to scream at the TV when Dracula tries to seduce Lucy Westenra, but they also scare away when he attacks his victims.

Horror Slasher:
In these types of movies there is a lot of gore and bloody scenes, with nearly every character dying in a gory way. A good example of this type of genre is Friday the 13th. The main story line of this story is about Jason Voorhees and his deadly intensions. He is after a group of friends who lurking around a boarded up Camp Crystal Lake, where he resides. This movie makes the audience literally hide behind a pillow and want to shout at the TV ‘Jason is behind you!’

Horror Comedy:
In these types of movies there is a horror element to them, with either scary character i.e. zombies, or something gory happens to one of the characters. But the main element is comedy and making the audience laugh at their misfortune throughout the film. Even though scary things may be happening, the comedy side of it covers it up nicely. An example is Zombieland. This movie is about student, Columbus, trying to reach his family in Ohio after a zombie invasion. He joins forces with tough man Tallahassee who is mainly looking around for the last Twinkie. This movie, even though they encounter many zombies on their way, has so much comedy in it the audience genuinely forgets they are watching a horror.

Horror Sci-fi:
In these types of movies there are usually aliens or the characters are in space. There is a definite horror element but it is coated with a scary alien like creature, which is usually on a killing spree. An example of horror sci-fi is Apollo 18. In this movie two American astronauts, Walker and Anderson, are sent on a secret expedition to the moon. Once they arrive there, something happens to one of the astronauts gets injured by a rock substance but becomes increasingly paranoid. It then shows these ‘rocks’ are alien creatures, which are in fact infecting Walker, the paranoid astronaut.

Horror Monster:
In these types of movies there is always a horror monster, which is attacking the people and spreading havoc in a city or with a group of friends. An example of a horror monster is Cloverfield. This movie is about an alien attacking New York and reeking havoc on all of the people residing there.

Horror Teen:
In these types of movies these are usually mellowed down a bit for teen viewers, but are usually based on facts that teenagers usually go throughout. Either their prom, going to a party or going camping with a group of friends. An example is Prom Night. In this film, Donna, is ready to have the time of her life at her senior prom with friends at a fancy hotel. But the killer who killed her mum, dad and brother is ready to get her at her prom.

Horror Supernatural:
In these types of movies they are all to with the demonic spirits and extraterrestrial creatures. An example of this is Paranormal Activity. In this movie a couple become disturbed by a demonic presence, which then takes over Katie and she ends up attacking everyone around her.

Horror Psychological:
In these types of movies these usually make the audience have to think about the story and a big twist normally happens in between to make the audience reconsider what they already thought. An example is The Ward. In this movie Kristen, gets institutionalized to a mental home, she then gets haunted by a ghost called Alice, who is killing all of the patients around her. A dramatic twist happens at the end, and it ends up being something you would never expect.

Horror Musical:
In these types of movies they are usually horror related but have continuous singing throughout. An example is Sweeny Todd. In this movie, Benjamin Barker a.k.a. Sweeny Todd, sets up his own barbershop with his tenant Mrs. Lovett, who end up having a sinister partnership of killing people and putting them into Mrs. Lovett pies.

There are all different types of horror movies, that all fall into different Sub-Genres e.g. Slasher, Thriller or Comedy. Each of these sub-genres bring something different to movie, either they make the audience want to hide behind a pillow or make them want to laugh out loud.

In a horror movie I expect to either be scared out my brain or so scared I can’t even sleep at night without having mental pictures of them. In a comedy movie I also expect to be laughing madly but still be slightly scared at what I’m seeing. I like to also be surprised at the ending of the horror movie, and think to myself ‘What just happened here?’
